A Hike Round The Lake

June 1st 2014

Yesterday we hiked around the lake.  Last year we got halfway round and vowed that we would find the rest of the trail.  It was a gorgeous day with temperatures in the 60's, bright sunshine and a little snow on the ground here and there.  The lake was covered in little sparkles.  As we hiked we saw mergansers(but no ducklings yet), an osprey and a black backed woodpecker.  About two thirds of the way round, we ate our picnic lunch on the sun warmed rocks and gratefully removed our boots and socks to dip our toes in the water.  The  crystal clear water was really cold, being snowmelt from the surrounding mountains, but it felt good!  We also discovered that ducks like gluten free bread and back near the car we saw geese with their fluffy goslings.  The hike is between four and five miles with a lot of ups and downs.  At 7000feet that feels like hard work but is totally worth it!
